Goolwa Beach

Glorious Goolwa Beach, approximately 18km’s of white sand stretching all the way to Middleton. Surf, swim and enjoy. The sunsets over the beach are some of the best you will see. Goolwa Beach is patrolled by Goolwa Surf Life Saving Club, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at a minimum during the summer season – beginning early October and finishing April. Goolwa Beach can also be accessed by 4WD, and you can travel all the way to the mouth of the Murray Mouth! Make sure to pay attention to tide times and signage at the entry point. The sand dunes are out of bounds and driving on them is highly illegal. Part of the appeal of the drive is actually the expanse of untouched sand hills.

Harbourmasters Walking Trail, Port Elliot

A 1.9km circuit hike between Horseshoe Bay, across the headland to Knights Beach. The trail follows a cobblestone path around the headland of Freemans Knob past Ladys Beach, Rocky Bay and Green Bay before reaching Knights Beach and returns along the Esplanade past Freemans Lookout. The trail is well marked with brown timber posts. The trail may not be ideal for prams due to the cobblestone path on the lower section of the trail. The Cockle Train

The Cockle Train travels along the oldest steel railed railway in Australia dating back to 1854 when it was constructed to provide a link between the River Murray and the ocean wharfs at Pt Elliot and later at Victor Harbor. Based at our Goolwa Depot and commences its run each day at Goolwa Station, in the historic Wharf Precinct alongside the River Murray. After crossing the main Goolwa to Victor Harbor Road the line heads off across the plains to Middleton, picking up or dropping off passengers on request, and then to Port Elliot where it reaches the Encounter Bay coast. The station here is operated by the local National Trust and features a small historical museum.
